The main jurisdiction of the state board of education is the state's Department of Education and the public school system of the state. The following are the powers and duties of SBE: 1. Determine the duties of the chairperson of the board, which is the state,'s Superintendent of Public Instruction which includes responsibility to render advice or make recommendations to the board with regards to the matters on policies and administration of the state's Department of Education and public school system 3. Organize the different functions of the board, its attached supervisory agencies, as well as the administrative functions and divisions of the state's Department of Education
